Why You Don’t Care About Your Health Anymore (and 3 Faith-Based Shifts to Start Again)
Why You Don’t Care About Your Health Anymore (and 3 Faith-Based Shifts to Start Again)
I read something in scripture a few months ago that stopped me.
Not because I hadn’t read it before…
but because this time, it felt personal.
And I felt the Lord ask me a question I haven’t been able to shake:
“What are you selling your body for?”
At first, that question didn’t make sense.
I’m a fitness trainer. A nutrition coach.
I’ve spent years helping women build healthy habits, stay consistent with workouts, and take care of their bodies.
I’ve always cared about my health.
And yet…
There were still things I wasn’t paying attention to.
Not big, obvious things.
Small ones.
When You Feel Disconnected From Your Health
If you’re honest, you might feel this too.
You haven’t completely stopped caring.
You still think about:
- getting back into a workout routine
- eating better
- having more energy
But something feels… off.
You’re not all the way in.
But you’re not completely out either.
You’re just… coasting.
And the truth is, most women haven’t quit caring.
They’ve just stopped paying attention.
The Question That Changes Everything
When I sat with that question—
“What are you selling your body for?”—
it wasn’t about big, dramatic choices.
It was about the small exchanges I had normalized.
The questions that came up for me were:
- What am I trading for convenience?
- What am I allowing in without question?
- What small choices are slowly costing me something?
And that’s where everything started to shift.
Because this isn’t about doing everything at once.
It’s about becoming aware again.
The Shift Most Women Need (But Don’t Make)
We live in a world that makes everything feel overwhelming.
There’s always:
- another health trend
- another ingredient to avoid
- another “better” option
So what do we do?
We stop asking questions.
We default to:
- what’s easy
- what’s quick
- what feels manageable in the moment
And over time…
that creates disconnection.
Not because you don’t care.
But because you stopped paying attention.
3 Faith-Based Shifts to Care About Your Health Again
These are the three shifts that have changed everything for me.
Not from pressure.
Not from guilt.
But from conviction, awareness, and stewardship.
1. From Passivity → Awareness
The first shift is simple, but powerful:
Start paying attention again.
Not to everything.
Not all at once.
Just… something.
Ask:
- What am I putting into my body?
- What am I ignoring?
- What have I accepted as “normal”?
For me, this looked like:
- the water we drink
- the air in our home
- what we put on our skin
Not out of fear.
But out of awareness.
Because once you see it…
you can’t unsee it.
2. From Convenience → Conviction
This one is harder.
Because sometimes we don’t ask the Lord…
because we don’t want the answer.
Convenience is easy.
Comfort is familiar.
But conviction?
Conviction requires change.
And there’s a difference:
- Guilt says: “You’re doing it wrong.”
- Conviction says: “There’s a better way.”
And when you start asking:
“Lord, what needs to change here?”
He will answer.
Not to overwhelm you.
But to guide you.
3. From Back Burner → Embodiment
This one might be the most important.
Your body is not something you get to later.
It’s not:
- optional
- secondary
- something you fix when life slows down
It’s the vessel you’ve been given to:
- live
- love
- show up
And for so many of us…
it’s been sitting on the back burner.
Not intentionally.
But slowly.
Quietly.
And this is the shift:
Bring it back into your awareness.
Not perfectly.
Not all at once.
But intentionally.
This Isn’t About Perfection
Let me be clear:
This is not about doing everything “right.”
I’m not removing joy from my life.
I’m not trying to control every variable.
This is about asking:
Where am I making small exchanges that are costing me something?
Because those small things?
They add up.
A Different Way to Approach Your Health
For a long time, I approached health like this:
- what do I need to fix?
- what caused this?
- how do I control it?
But this season shifted that.
It slowed me down.
And reminded me:
This isn’t about striving. It’s about surrender.
Sitting with the Lord and asking:
“Where do you want me to start?”You Don’t Need to Overhaul Everything
If you feel disconnected from your health…
you don’t need to:
- do everything
- fix everything
- change everything today
You need one thing:
Your next step.
Ask:
- What am I allowing in?
- What am I trading?
- What is one thing the Lord is asking me to change?
And then take that step.
Because your body matters.
Not because of how it looks.
But because of what it was created for.
